Scottish Golf helps provide a silver lining for Calum
Calum Scott continued an exciting year for Scottish golf by winning the silver medal for top amateur in the Open Championship at Royal Troon last week.
It has been a memorable summer so far with successes for Ewen Ferguson in the BMW International Open and Bob MacIntyre in the Genesis Scottish Open, and 20-year-old Calum kept the ball rolling with an impressive eight-over-par score in the 152nd Open.
Scott, the 20-year-old from Nairn, is benefitting from the grounding given to him by being a member of Scottish Golf’s Performance Programme, which receives financial support from the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation.
Currently a student at Texas Tech University he joins an illustrious list of former silver medal winners including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.
Calum said: “It was just amazing and I will definitely cherish it for a lifetime. I have got a year left at college, but it does a lot for my amateur career, and it helps me in the next year as I transition maybe into pro golf.”
Clare Queen, Head of Performance and Pathway at Scottish Golf, said: “Calum has been supported by the Scottish Golf Performance Programme for a number of years, representing Scotland since he was 15. At every stage of his development he has been fully committed to improving his game and making the most of the opportunities he has had.
“We are so proud of his achievement in winning the silver medal at Royal Troon, demonstrating that he can compete with the best players in the world.
“The relationship which has developed with the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation is one which is highly valued by Scottish Golf. This support makes a significant contribution to the Performance Programme, contributing to the personal and sporting development of so many players and enabling role models like Calum to inspire the next generation of Scottish Golfers. We are so grateful for the continuing support.”
